Eliseo Berríos Rosado
Founder & Principal, M. Arch., NCARB, AIA, NOMA, Real Estate Broker
An architect, educator, author, and cultural strategist based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, his practice spans architecture, interiors, and object design. With more than twenty years of experience, he explores materiality, context, and experience while engaging architecture beyond the built environment through education, writing, professional leadership, and cultural initiatives.
Underlying this multidisciplinary practice is an ongoing interest in architecture’s capacity to shape not only spaces, but also conversations, institutions, and communities.

Jan Candelaria Soto
M. Arch., AIT, AIA Associate, Senior Project Designer
A designer whose work is driven by a thoughtful and creative approach to the distinct qualities of each project, developing concepts across multiple scales. He holds degrees in architecture from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where his academic work included the study and design of a cultural center at Convento La Recolección in Guatemala.

Mónica Portuondo Mir
M. Arch., AIT, Architectural Associate
Holds a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Puerto Rico, as well as a Master’s in Advanced Studies in Architecture, specializing in Restoration and Architectural Rehabilitation, from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona. Her interests center on culture, anthropology, art, and the relationship between contemporary design and the adaptive transformation of existing and historic structures.

Marcos F. Ríos Berríos
M. Arch., Candidate, Architectural Intern
Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design with a Minor in Fine Arts and is currently pursuing a Master of Architecture at the University of Puerto Rico. Artist, painter, and emerging architect exploring the relationship between art, design, and the built environment.

ALMATERIA is a multidisciplinary design practice working across architecture, interiors, objects, and culture, with a distinct approach to materiality, context, and experience.
Based in San Juan, the studio approaches design across scales, from spaces and interiors to objects, through a process grounded in material exploration, contextual awareness, and collaboration. Its work spans residential, commercial, workplace, healthcare, and cultural contexts, while extending beyond practice through research, education, professional leadership, and cultural engagement.
Established in 2013, ALMATERIA works in Puerto Rico and through selected collaborations beyond the archipelago.
